Culture Design photography : Focus on “Arrêt sur Design”

“Arrêt sur Design” 10 portraits by Frédéric Leloup

First of all, the next edition of the famous design market will take place sunday 13th of october.
As a culture design day we will focus on Frédéric Leloup Photography during Undesignable Market Paris, his tribute to the art dealers.
More than 70 design resellers will show the best furnitures from France and Europe.

Lovers of vintage design will find pieces signed by the great designers who have marked history and our interiors.
Certainly the main designers are Cees Braakman, Pierre Paulin, Friso Kramer, Jean Prouvé, Pierre Guariche but also Arne Jacobsen, Bruno Mathsson, Charles & Ray Eames or Joe Colombo and even more.
Many more will probably be unveiled with the last arrivals.

A tribute to the design resellers

After some years of collaboration with Undesignable Market Paris, Frédéric Leloup professional photographer in Parisian Clichés celebrates the 10th Edition anniversary of Undesignable Market Paris.

A culture design day for a photography exhibition presenting the loyalest design resellers.

Arrêt sur Design : The choice of the wide angle Nikon lens 14-24 mm 2.8

To reveal objects, lamps, furnitures we need to use most of the time the Nikon lens 24-70.
In addition, to focus very close to the objects the use of the 70-200 mm is certainly the best lens to isolate the subject. To create some nice blur around the portrait with the people walking around.

However, i should not forget that those men and women are involved to sell furnitures with a great knowledge of vintage design.
All items get history and the process to find the right item can be a very long process before arriving on the displays of the stands.

For that reason the use of the Nikon lens 14-24mm was of course an evidence to reveal a maximum of items around the portraits.
Those furnitures are part of their own personal history.
The use of a 85mm should have been a mistake.

I’am finally happy to get 10 portraits for the 10th edition of Undesignable Market Paris.

A Culture Design spirit of vintage furnitures

A universe of enthusiasts, crazy dealers of vintage furnitures, from all over France, Germany, Sweden and Holland.

Taken on the screw, in a situation of waiting, of availability which precedes a meeting, Frédéric Leloup knew how to capture all the passion which is hidden behind their eyes.

Professional lovers of vintage design with easy contact to share ideas and ask for advice.

Because of the rain, wind or storm, furnitures need to be protected during the fair.

After hours traveled in the trucks most of them are tired due to a trip of several hundred kilometers. Finally their night ends for the vast majority of them by a mounting in the wake at dawn.
Reseller always in the right mood to welcome the first visitors from 7am.

Paris snow

Paris snow creates magic pictures

Paris snow creates magic during the night from Tuesday 6th of February 10 pm until morning 3pm.

Before going for shooting by night, specially when the weather is difficult make a check list.

To catch the magic of the snow falling down in the streets and dark sky need some basic equipment to protect yourself and your gear.

When the weather is extreme you must walk and leave the car, scooter or bike.
Remember the metro is closing after 12:30 am.

Photography tips to prepare your next shooting by night

Even if Paris snow is not Iceland snow you must be aware to get a good equipment to walk comfortably on the streets full of snow or cold water.
It requires warm jacket, good shoes to walk in the cold snow and water.
You need two pairs of gloves, a warm one and a silk one to be more confortable to change the set up of your camera.

You will be quickly cold and wet if your personal equipment is not adequate and watertight.

Your camera needs a very good protection when snow is falling and specially when the wind is more or less strong.
The best equipment available on the market is maybe the rain cover E-702 ProLitght from Kata for reflex and of course to cover your lenses from 24 mm to 200mm. Manfrotto is now selling this cover.

If you stay in Paris to get this rain cover in a hurry you will find the Rain cover E-702
in the professional store like Objectif Bastille by following this link.
(Store opening Monday to Friday)

The most important photography tips for your course concern your lens.

First of all your lens needs a basic neutral filter to protect it you maybe get already fixed on it.
With a rain cover there is no protection of front of the lens.
If some flakes of snow or drops of rain are touching the lens you need a small tissues to clean it.
If you plan to shoot for many hours you need to plan to get a lot, cleaned and dried.
Maybe you need to clean the lens for each shoot, depends of the direction of the wind. Bring many with you it’s not luxury.

Organize your next Paris landmarks course

When you choose Parisian Clichés to organize your night photography workshop we will move with your gear on my scooter. On the top case specially built for that we will secure your gear. We will ride also easily in all the districts on the city.

When rain or snow is falling heavily we must arrange car transfer to protect your camera, lenses, tripod and yourself of course.
The traffic is down during the night in Paris so there is no problem to move between two Paris landmarks.
Parking is also more easy.

Shooting with a tripod – rain cover – Iso 100 – 32 mm – f/16 – 3 seconds exposure
This photography is taken with a tripod but with low Iso to catch the lights like little stars.
The now is falling and doesn’t appear clearly.

You need a minimum equipment and gear when planning this kind of night photography specially when the snow falls sharply.
A basic umbrella can be useful of course but on the top of the equipment we talked above.

This photography is taken without a tripod but with high Iso to catch the Paris snow falling but with a slow speed.
The lights are not sparkling due to the speed exposure

Discreet ballad in Paris

Discreet ballad in Paris with Fred

When Ellen Kearns asked me to organize a charming & simple discreet ballad in Paris we agreed on a course with quite diverse cultural interest centers.

Ellen is from New York and knows the most exclusive cultural places of her city but also in Paris.
My goal was to plan a nice ballad, taking time of course to take pictures but of course to produce on her a complete surprise by the discovery of new locations in Paris.

Four hours to discover a church, a private mansion, a city of artists and street art and taking time to share good cups of coffee with french baguette and croissants.

Cité Fleurie

In front of La Cité Fleurie

The church of Saint Eugène-Sainte Cécile

Built in a Gothic style but with an entirely metallic structure it is considered an architectural sacrilege.

Indeed, it does not take up the classical codes of architecture that characterize so much the churches built in the Gothic style.

The fact of not using stone makes it possible to do without the flying buttresses thus gaining a considerable space on the ground but which evidently transform completely the interior and exterior aspect of the building.

Faithfuls are far from being disturbed by this architectural choice and can be proud to be able to celebrate their worship in such an incredibly beautiful building.

Jacquemart-André Museum

The majority of visitors are attracted by the quality of the temporary exhibitions offered by the Jacquemart André Museum and are pleased to be able to discover the entire hotel of the Jacquemart-André couple with the same admission ticket.

Built in the middle of the aristocratic Paris of the 19th century and in the middle of the plain Monceau it is ideally located in Paris.

A unique winter garden

Its extraordinary facade, very visible from the Haussman boulevard, allows to imagine the splendor of the receptions that could be organized there.

Temporary exhibitions located on the first floor of the building can be reached directly but it would be a shame not to take the time to visit the mansion to start your nice discreet ballad.

The reception rooms and the private apartments are exceptional.
Check the previous article on Jacquemart-André Museum.

La Cité Fleurie

The flower city is one of the charming and discreet places of Paris.
Built to accommodate artists from around the world, it has the interest of providing large interior volumes for artists always in search of space and light.

A peaceful common garden makes the link between all the dwellings.
Some tables and chairs of garden to relax and exchange between artists.

Among the most famous artists, Modigliani, used to live here, at number 9.

Street Art in the 13th district

The large mural frescoes have the advantage of being extremely visible from the street because of their monumental size. The Itinérance gallery, which deals with the promotion of the main artists in conjunction with the 13th arrondissement’s city hall, is constantly offering new spaces for new frescoes.
